We collect the minimum we need to make Sage work — and we don't sell your data.
This policy describes what information Sage (“we”, “us”) collects from people who visit or sign up for our site, how we use that information, and the choices you have. We tried to write it the way we'd want a privacy policy written for our own families.
What we collect
- Account info: your email address, the password hash (we never see your raw password), your display name, and an optional avatar.
- Content you create: marketplace listings, photos you upload, messages you send to other parents, items / deals / events you save, and reports you submit.
- Basic device + usage data: the pages you visit, your approximate region (derived from IP), the type of device and browser you use, and what you click. We use this to debug problems and to improve the site.
- Screen-time analytics (US): when you leave a screen in the app (by navigating elsewhere, closing the tab, or leaving the site), we log the URL path, when that screen was opened, how long it stayed open, coarse location (country and city when our host provides them from your connection — we do not store your full IP address in this log), and a simple device type (phone, tablet, or desktop) derived from your browser. We set a random anonymous session ID in an HTTP-only cookie so we can tell repeat visits apart without knowing your name. If you are signed in, we also attach your account to those events so our team can see that a logged-in parent viewed a page — not guests' identities. Only Sage administrators can read this log; other parents never see it.
- Phone number (optional):if and when phone verification is enabled, we collect your phone number so we can send a one-time code. We don't share it with anyone.
What we do NOT collect
- Government-issued ID, SSN, or precise location.
- Financial or payment card information.
- Children's data — Sage is intended for adults (18+) only.
- Audio, video, or biometric data of any kind beyond a profile avatar you choose to upload.
How we use your information
- To create and operate your account and the messaging system.
- To show your listings, deals, and events to other parents in your area.
- To detect fraud, spam, and abuse (we run AI screening on every listing and message).
- To send transactional emails (e.g. password resets, message notifications). We don't send marketing emails unless you explicitly opt in.
- To produce anonymous, aggregated analytics about how Sage is used.
What other parents can see
Other Sage users only see your first name, your avatar, your neighborhood-level city (e.g. “Los Angeles”), your rating + sales count, and any listings or messages you've sent. Your email address, phone number, exact address, and last name are private.
Cookies and tracking
Sage uses cookies to keep you signed in, to remember your preferences (including the metro area you choose for events and deals context), and (for analytics) a short anonymous session identifier so we can understand repeat visits. We do not run third-party advertising trackers, retargeting pixels, or social media tracking pixels.
Affiliate / attribution:Some deal links use affiliate partners (e.g. Skimlinks or Amazon Associates) so qualifying purchases can be attributed to Sage. Those flows may set cookies or use redirects managed by the affiliate network and the merchant — we don't control their specific names or lifetimes. Deals without an affiliate network recorded in our catalog are direct retailer links; cookies there are only between you and the merchant. Service providers we use
We share data only with the vendors that operate the site:
- Supabase — database and authentication hosting.
- Vercel — site hosting and edge networking.
- Anthropic and OpenAI — used by our content moderation and listing-assist AI features. Listings and messages may pass through these providers for spam / safety classification. They do not train on Sage data.
Each of these vendors is contractually bound to handle your data securely and only on our behalf.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your profile, listings, and saved items within 30 days. Conversations may be retained in a de-identified form (your name removed) so the other party can still see their side of the chat.
You can request full deletion or a copy of your data at any time by emailing hello@sage.app.
Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)
If you live in California, the EU, the UK, or another region with a comprehensive privacy law, you have the right to:
- Know what data we have about you.
- Get a copy of that data.
- Have your data corrected if inaccurate.
- Have your data deleted.
- Opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — though we don't do either of those things in the first place.

Children
Sage is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when our practices change. The “last updated” date below will reflect the most recent change. If we make a material change, we'll also post a banner on the home page or email registered users.
